Empowering individuals and families to find

hope, healing, and wholeness

through therapeutic work with horses.

Unbridled

Unbridled: to live courageously and wholeheartedly in a world that desperately needs the real, authentic woman God created you to be.

Women face many pressures and challenges in today’s world. Depression, anxiety, traumatic experiences, relationship issues, or other life stressors often keep us from becoming our true selves, finding our purpose, and living out our calling. We believe there’s more to life than struggle!

Each 90-minute session includes interactive activities with the horses, and honest discussion based on topics such as identity, faith, stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, or purpose. Women will get to learn and practice proven tools such as: coping skills and self-regulation, boundaries that empower, self-care plans, challenging negative self-talk and thought processes, assertive communication, and healthy relationship skills, which will empower you to live out your calling. Horses make incredible teachers, listeners, and partners through the hard work of healing and growing. Women will experience encouragement and support from Take Heart staff as well as other group members. Therapy does not have to be a bad experience; we believe you can learn, grow, and heal while having fun! No horse experience is necessary. Most of our horse activities will be on the ground, although depending on the group, we may do some riding.

To provide the best learning experience possible for each participant, we want to select a cohesive group of women. Who is the best fit for this group? Women ages 18+ who are struggling with any of the above listed challenges on a regular basis. You may or may not be already working with a therapist, although we recommend that you tell your therapist about this group. If you have an official diagnosis, we ask you to disclose this with us so that we can best understand how to help. Women who struggle with extreme impulsivity, explosive anger, or violence will not be accepted into the group, but may contact Take Heart about individual therapy services. Women with intellectual or physical disabilities or who are on the autism spectrum, or who require special services, are not a fit for this group, but may contact Take Heart about individual or other group therapy services. This group is limited to no more than 8 participants under supervision of 2 or 3 Take Heart staff members, to ensure individualized attention. Groups are facilitated by a licensed professional counselor and/or master’s-level therapist and other Take Heart staff –

all with backgrounds in mental health and experience in equine assisted therapy. While most activities will be on the ground, please note that if we do any riding, our horses’ weight limit is 200lbs.

Teens Unbridled: Equine Assisted Therapy Day Camp
Depression and Anxiety are the most common mental health struggles in our nation today. Often working hand-in-hand, depression and anxiety can range from patterns of negative thoughts to crippling fears or suicidal ideation. It can feel overwhelming and hopeless, but we believe freedom is possible.

Each two-hour session includes interactive activities with the horses, and honest discussion based on topics such as stress, anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicide, trauma, loneliness, relationships, or bullying. Teens will get to learn and practice proven tools such as: coping skills and self-regulation, boundaries that empower, self-care plans, challenging negative self-talk and thought processes, assertive communication, and healthy relationship skills. Horses make incredible teachers, listeners, and partners through the hard work of healing and growing. Additionally, being in a group environment challenges the feeling that you are alone in your pain; teens will experience encouragement and support from Take Heart staff as well as other group members. Therapy does not have to be a bad experience; we believe you can learn, grow, and heal while having fun! No horse experience is necessary. Ranchers & Wranglers: Horsemanship Program for Kids & Teens

Calling all cowboys and cowgirls! Join us on the farm for some horse time, Friday mornings through Summer. Each 2-hour group lesson includes learning natural horsemanship techniques based on trust, respect, and understanding. Activities are on the ground and in the saddle, and involve learning about horse care. Life lessons, confidence-building, & social skills are learned organically through horse time each week. This is NOT a therapy group - the focus is purely on horses - but we believe fresh air, a little dirt, and horses provide the perfect natural setting for learning and growth! No horse experience is necessary. You may sign up for one group or all the groups – registration is first come, first served. Cost is $50 per student, per 2-hour group.

To provide the best learning experience possible for each student, we want to select a cohesive group of kids or teens. Who is the best fit for a group lesson? Any Rancher ages 8-12 (kids group) or Wrangler ages 13-17 (teens group) with an interest in horses! While we may discuss educational and therapeutic topics, this is NOT a therapy group. If your child has an official diagnosis, we ask you to disclose this with us so that we can best understand how to work with your child, or can refer you to another service with us. Children who struggle with extreme impulsivity, explosive anger, or violence will not be accepted into the group, but may contact Take Heart about individual therapy services. Children with intellectual or physical disabilities or who are on the autism spectrum, or who require special services, are not a fit for this group, but may contact Take Heart about individual or other group therapy services. Each week’s 2-hour lesson is limited to no more than 6 participants under supervision of 2 or 3 Take Heart staff members, to ensure individualized attention. Groups are facilitated by Take Heart staff – all with backgrounds in mental health or related fields, and experience in working with horses and kids. Please note that for riding, our horses’ weight limit is 200lbs. If you are not sure if your child is the best fit for a group, we offer individual horsemanship lessons for those who may not require therapeutic services, but who may benefit from time with a horse or just want to learn to ride in a relaxing, non-show barn environment. This is also a great opportunity for your child to play with horses, but receive valuable 1-on-1 care and mentorship from their instructor – someone they can talk to about life, that’s not a parent!

Take Heart Counseling & Equine Assisted Therapy is a small farm in Mohnton, PA whose mission is to empower individuals and families to find hope, healing, and wholeness through therapeutic work with horses. We offer individual, family, and group counseling services designed to help people with a wide variety of emotional, family, or mental health issues with professionalism in a peaceful outdoor setting. It is a joy to offer horsemanship lessons as an extension of our work for those who may not need counseling services, but could benefit from time with horses.

Horsemanship Lessons

If you are not sure if your child is the best fit for a group, we offer individual horsemanship lessons for those who may not require therapeutic services, but who may benefit from time with a horse or just want to learn to ride in a relaxing, non-show barn environment. This is also a great opportunity for your child to play with horses, but receive valuable 1-on-1 care and mentorship from their instructor – someone they can talk to about life, that’s not a parent.

No horse experience is necessary. We will combine ground activities with riding. Our approach to horsemanship is called natural horsemanship, and is based on building a relationship with the horse through trust, respect, and understanding. The first couple sessions will likely involve more groundwork, as we practice building trust and respect until each participant is comfortable and ready to ride!
