Equine Therapy for Trauma: How Unbridled Helps Women Heal in Pennsylvania

Equine Therapy for Women with Trauma

If you’re carrying the weight of past trauma, you already know how it can shape everything—the way you see yourself, how you show up in relationships, and even whether you feel safe in your own body. Maybe you’ve noticed yourself shutting down when emotions feel too big, or pulling back from connections that once brought you joy. Perhaps you’re going through the motions of daily life while feeling disconnected from the woman you used to be, or the woman you sense you could become.

You’re not broken. You’re not too far gone. And healing from trauma is possible.

At Take Heart Counseling in Wernersville, PA, we believe no person is beyond hope. That’s why we created Unbridled—a women’s equine trauma therapy group designed specifically for women like you who are ready to release what’s been holding you back and step into wholehearted, courageous living.

What Is Equine Therapy for Trauma?

Equine-assisted therapy, also known as horse therapy or equine-assisted psychotherapy, is a proven approach to trauma recovery that combines traditional counseling techniques with experiential learning alongside horses. Unlike traditional talk therapy alone, equine therapy engages your whole self—body, mind, and spirit—in the healing process.

You might be wondering what horses have to do with healing from trauma. The answer is: everything.

Horses have an extraordinary ability to meet us exactly where we are. They don’t judge your story or need you to explain yourself. Instead, they respond honestly to what you’re feeling in the moment—your nervous system, your energy, your emotional state. When you’re anxious, they might become alert. When you ground yourself and breathe, they often mirror that calm back to you.

This isn’t just comforting—it’s powerful for PTSD and trauma recovery. Trauma lives in the body, and horses help you reconnect with physical sensations in a safe, gentle way. They teach you how to regulate overwhelming emotions, trust your intuition again, and recognize your own strength. Working with horses takes healing out of your head and into real-life experience, where true transformation happens.

What Makes Unbridled Different: Trauma-Informed Women's Group Therapy

Unbridled isn’t just another therapy group. It’s a sacred space where women gather to do the brave work of healing together. Led by Erin Repasy, MA, LPC, a licensed professional counselor who specializes in trauma-informed therapy and equine-assisted psychotherapy, this group offers:

  • A safe, supportive community of women who understand what it means to carry heavy things
  • Trauma-focused care that honors your story and works at a pace that feels right for you
  • Body-based healing through gentle interactions with horses that help you feel grounded and present
  • Evidence-based techniques for emotional regulation so you can steady yourself when feelings threaten to overwhelm
  • A path to reclaiming your authentic self—the woman God created you to be, unburdened by what was
The women’s trauma therapy group meets Monday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at our ranch in Wernersville, PA (serving Berks County, Lancaster County, and Lebanon County), starting the week of April 6, 2026. Over the course of several weeks, you’ll reconnect with yourself, build resilience, and discover renewed hope—both within the herd and beyond.

The Benefits of Equine Therapy for Women with Trauma

Research shows that equine-assisted therapy can be particularly effective for trauma survivors because:
  • Horses provide non-judgmental support and immediate feedback
  • Working with horses helps regulate the nervous system
  • Equine therapy addresses trauma that’s stored in the body, not just the mind
  • The ranch environment offers a peaceful setting away from daily stressors
  • Group support reduces isolation and shame often associated with trauma
Women who participate in equine therapy for PTSD and trauma often experience improved emotional regulation, increased self-confidence, stronger interpersonal boundaries, and a renewed sense of safety in their bodies and relationships.

You Are Worth This
