Take The Reins Teen Girls Support Group with Horses: Building Confidence & Healthy Relationships in PA

Being a teenage girl today can feel overwhelming. There’s pressure to look a certain way, act a certain way, get perfect grades, navigate complicated friendships, manage social media drama, and somehow figure out who you’re supposed to be—all while dealing with big emotions that can feel impossible to manage.

Maybe you’ve felt like you’re not enough. Maybe friendships feel confusing or exhausting. Maybe you’re struggling to speak up for yourself, or you’re not even sure what you want to say. Maybe you just wish you had a place where you could be yourself without all the noise and judgment.
Here’s the truth: you don’t have to navigate all of this alone. And there’s a group of girls just like you who are ready to walk this journey together.

What Is Take the Reins? A Support Group for Teen Girls

Take the Reins is a four-week support group designed specifically for teenage girls who want to build confidence, develop healthy relationship skills, and feel more comfortable being themselves. Led by Alexa Elliott, a Master’s-level counseling intern who genuinely gets what it’s like to be a teen girl today, this group combines guided experiences with horses and group activities to help you grow in self-esteem, coping skills, and a stronger sense of identity and purpose.

This isn’t intensive therapy (if you’re looking for that, check out The Inside Out Herd, which is also amazing). Take the Reins is more about connection, support, and personal growth. It’s about finding your voice, building your confidence, and learning to navigate relationships with grace and strength—all while spending time with horses and other girls who just get it.

The Power of Connection: Teen Girls Group Therapy

One of the most powerful parts of Take the Reins is simply being in community with other girls who are going through similar things. You’re not the only one who feels overwhelmed by friendships, social media, or pressure to be perfect. You’re not the only one who struggles to speak up or set boundaries. And when you realize you’re not alone, everything starts to shift.

In this teen girls support group, you’ll have the chance to share, listen, and learn from each other in a safe, encouraging environment. No one is there to judge you. Everyone is there to grow together. And that kind of connection? It changes things.

Why Horses Build Confidence in Teen Girls

You might be wondering what horses have to do with building confidence and healthy relationships. The answer: everything.

Horses are incredibly perceptive. They respond to your energy, your emotions, and the way you show up. When you’re nervous or unsure, they might hesitate. When you’re clear and confident, they follow your lead. Working with horses gives you immediate, honest feedback about how you’re communicating and presenting yourself—without any of the judgment or drama that can come with human interactions.

Through activities with the horses, you’ll practice things like setting boundaries, communicating clearly, trusting yourself, and leading with confidence. These aren’t just “horse skills”—they’re life skills that you’ll take with you into friendships, family relationships, school, and everything else.

And here’s the best part: horses are calming and grounding. Just being around them helps reduce stress and anxiety and brings you into the present moment. They create a space where you can breathe, be yourself, and grow at your own pace.

What You'll Gain: Building Self-Esteem & Relationship Skills

Over the four weeks of Take the Reins, you’ll grow in four key areas:

Self-esteem and confidence: You’ll learn to see your own value and build confidence in who you are—not who you think you’re supposed to be. This teen self-esteem group helps you recognize your strengths and worth.

Healthy relationship skills: You’ll practice clear communication, boundary-setting, and navigating friendships with greater ease and authenticity. Learn how to handle peer pressure and relationship drama.

Coping skills for stress and anxiety: You’ll discover practical ways to manage big emotions, stress, and the everyday pressures of being a teen girl.

Identity and purpose: You’ll explore who you are and what matters to you, developing a clearer sense of direction and confidence in your own voice.

All of this happens in a supportive, fun environment where you’re surrounded by other girls and gentle horses who meet you exactly where you are.

For Parents: Why This Teen Girls Support Group Matters

If you’re a parent, you know how challenging the teenage years can be for girls. The pressure they face today—from social media, academics, friendships, and cultural expectations—is intense. Many girls struggle with confidence, anxiety, relationship drama, body image issues, and a sense of not being “enough.”

Take the Reins gives your daughter a safe space to build the skills she needs to navigate these challenges with grace and strength. She’ll learn to communicate more clearly, set healthy boundaries, manage emotions, and develop a stronger sense of self—all while building genuine connections with other girls who understand what she’s going through.

And because the group uses horses and hands-on experiences rather than traditional talk therapy, it’s engaging, fun, and accessible for girls who might be resistant to more clinical settings. This is a place where she can grow, gain confidence, and discover her own strength in a supportive, encouraging environment.
