Meagan Good | Founder & Licensed Professional Counselor

Take Heart began with a desire to combine passion with service. I have loved horses since my first riding lessons as a child. Riding in 4-H and eventually purchasing my first horse, Charley, taught me confidence, patience, goal-setting, and the value of hard work. As a shy teenager, horses became a place of peace and personal growth. I always hoped to pair my love for horses with helping others—and I felt a specific calling to do just that through equine-assisted therapy.

I earned my master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, PA, and hold state licensure as a professional counselor along with certification in equine-assisted psychotherapy. I have additional certifications in trauma-focused equine therapy and neuropsychotherapy, and I am passionate about healing the mind, body, and spirit through interventions that rewire the brain. My approach is centered on empowering clients and families, supporting them through healing journeys, and equipping other professionals to serve with compassion and competence. From 2017–2018, I also taught as an adjunct professor of equine-assisted psychotherapy at Lancaster Bible College.

In 2025, my husband Grant and I were blessed to adopt our two daughters. This experience has given me a new, deeply personal understanding of adoption and foster care, and I now bring that perspective to my work with children, teens, and families navigating adoption, foster care, and attachment challenges.

Take Heart opened in 2014 with one horse and the generosity of a local dairy farmer. In 2015, Grant and I purchased a small property to grow Take Heart, and in 2020 we were blessed to acquire our dream horse facility in Wernersville, PA, giving us room to expand programs and better serve clients. Today, Take Heart provides equine-assisted therapy for children, teens, adults, and families, as well as training, consultation, and retreats for other professionals. I also offer business consultation for anyone interested in opening a similar ministry, therapy program, or horsemanship program.

Outside of Take Heart, my family enjoys exploring the outdoors, kayaking, riding horses, and campfires with friends and family. My work with horses continues to inspire me, and I love sharing the healing power of these incredible animals with every client who comes through our doors.

When you work with Meagan, you are welcomed into a safe, supportive environment where you can explore challenges, build confidence, and strengthen emotional resilience at your own pace. Through equine-assisted therapy, clients develop communication, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills in a hands-on, engaging way that feels natural and empowering rather than intimidating.

For adults, Meagan offers a compassionate space to process childhood trauma, attachment wounds, and past experiences that continue to impact relationships, self-worth, or emotional well-being today. Her approach helps adults reconnect with their strengths, build emotional awareness, and develop healthier patterns—often in ways that feel grounding and experiential rather than overwhelming.

Meagan also brings both professional expertise and personal insight to her work with families, including a deep understanding of adoption and foster care. She supports children and parents in navigating attachment, transitions, and the unique dynamics of blended or adoptive families. Parents often notice their children becoming more open and confident, while adults and families alike find that the skills gained in therapy translate into stronger connections and greater resilience in everyday life.

What Horses Did For Me...

Having horses in my life gave me the confidence to dream big. I learned to set goals and to work hard towards them. Most importantly, I learned to be real. Charley responds best to my authentic self - I can't hide my thoughts or feelings from him! He is so good at reading me, and kindly giving feedback on the "self" I am being in the moment with him. This feels vulnerable at first, because I might need to change something - stepping back, taking a deep breath, restarting, whatever is needed in the moment.

Ultimately, it is truly a gift to be authentic with horses, because they accept you as you are. Horses are beautifully honest and intuitive. They share so much if we slow down and listen. Horses have taught me to be present in the moment and to notice so much more in every moment - honing my own awareness and comfort with my intuition. God has used so many moments with horses to speak to me and teach me more about my relationship with Him. Being with horses brings me so much joy and peace! I couldn't imagine doing anything else with my life.
